To become a full member of the Marion County ARES/RACES unit requires the following:
- Hold an Amateur Radio License issued by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC);
- Complete an ARES membership application (see LINKS page for copy of form), including sitting for a photo for the ID card;
- Pass a criminal background investigation (see links for copy of form);
- Demonstrate a willingness to respond and an ability to help during emergencies in the county and surrounding communities by regularly participating in scheduled training meetings and field exercises;
- Obtain the necessary personal equipment; and
- Demonstrate adequate communiction and radio operation skills.
Each of these requirments must be satisfied prior to earning your ID Card, which is issued by the authority of the State Police Office of Emergency Management, Marion County Emergency Management and other co-signing agencies.
